1. Program introduction
The Doctor in Management and Sustainable Development (DMS) is a full time, high quality, interdisciplinary PhD program. The degree is awarded by Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).
- Degree’s title: PhD in Sustainable Development and Management;
- Name of Specialization: Management and Sustainable Development;
- Specialization code: pilot specialization;
- Field of study: Interdisciplinary;
- Qualifications: PhD;
- Program duration: 3 years.
2. Language of instruction
Mainly in Vietnamese. However, depending on the candidates, some of the subjects could be conducted 100% in English. All candidates are encouraged to do and defend their Dissertation in English.
3. Admission process:
The DMS program only accepts candidates with a Master’s degree. The Admission Council will review their professional records in accordance with the regulations of Hanoi National University.
4. Admission criteria:
- Degree requirements: an appropriate or related master’s degree (please contact the Admission Office for more information);
- Language: Candidates should possess IELTS 5.0 and above or TOELF iBT 45-93 or an overseas undergraduate’s or postgraduate’s degree certificate where the language of instruction is English or a Bachelor’s Degree of Foreign Languages, majoring in English;
- Work experience: Minimum 2 years in the Ph.D chosen field of interest (calculated from the Bachelor’s degree graduation date til the Ph.D admission date;
- Others: according to VNU requirements

- Being able to detect and handle complex interdisciplinary issues in the field of sustainable management and development and offer innovative solutions to solve management problems associated with sustainable development of businesses and organizations;
- Ability to apply theory into practice to design strategy, policy to support Organizations develop sustainably.
- Capable of applying professional knowledge, methodology, scientific thinking skills effectively into teaching, research or consulting, or management, leadership to ensure the sustainable development of the organizations towards harmonious balance between the interests of businesses/organizations, the interests of society and environmental protection;
- Having the capacity to make strategic, policy decision-making and management decisions associated with sustainable development at the macro and micro level.
- Being able to propose new approaches and research in the field of interdisciplinary management and sustainable development.
7. Program fees:
- The first 3 years: 110.000.000 VND/year
- 4th and 5th (if any): 20.000.000 VND/year
- The above does NOT include application, reservation, extension, exam retaking, course retaking, English Standardized Test, English learning fees (if any).
